Forensic Firearm examiners are holders of B.S. degrees in various fields including Criminal Justice but have demonstrated a special aptitude in firearms and munitions. These highly trained criminalists use controlled conditions to test fire a suspected firearm and compare the results by use of comparison microscope to collected evidentiary sample(s). Additionally, these scientists enter firearm data into the Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS), a nationwide identification and tracking system.
